Human Resource Management for a Post-Covid World

Posted onFebruary 13, 2021February 13, 2021 By David Perry

This week we buried my father-in-law and I wrote a very difficult essay about loss. Every single death, in all contexts, covid or not, has been shaped by this pandemic. We can’t mourn, we can’t access the community we need to process loss, and the trauma of all these delayed and denied rituals will carry … Continue ReadingHuman Resource Management for a Post-Covid World

NEW POST (please read and share!): If we're going to do mediocre partial measures on student debt relief, can we at least look at a real number? I wrote:

"If the goal is to help people who go to public universities, then let's try to peg this relief to the actual numbers we have on debt from public universities. Here's what I can find.

'Among those who borrow, the average debt at graduation is $25,921 — or $6,480 for each year of a four-year degree at a public university. Among all public university graduates, including those who didn’t borrow, the average debt at graduation is $16,300.'

So $25,921 would be great, because then we can peg future relief to that "average debt" number. But $16,300 would also be great, because it's bigger than the arbitrary 10K."

I'm beginning to think about Human Resource Management (exciting, I know!), specifically Bereavement Leave, in a post-Covid world. The time to start planning is now.
